Katherine Heigl slams drug store chain with $6 million lawsuit over tweet

Have you heard about this? Do you all remember our photo ethics lesson? Well, here’s an interesting example where a photographer took an image and then the store re-tweeted the photo. Now the actress is suing the drug store because she is claiming that owner Walgreen Co. used her name and picture to promote the store without her permission.

According to the papers filed, they say that Heigl is “a highly successful television and motion picture actress, producer and celebrity” who “continues to be in high demand in the entertainment industry.” That means if you use her famous name or face, you should be expected to pay for it.

Heigl’s suit was filed in federal court in Manhattan, and indicates she would donate any money she receives from the suit to the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation, which helps find homes for dogs.
