The thing I love most about Long Island is that you can never get bored. Every weekend there are fun events and activities throughout the whole year. In the summer, you can guarantee that there will be a festival happening in one of the many towns on our Island. In the fall, there is a surplus of farms where you can enjoy apple-picking and other fall activities. Being surrounded by water makes things ever a liitle more exciting with the opportunity to participate in many water activities.
I picked the two following events to cover for JRN 320 because I feel they will be visually interesting.
1. The first event is the Annual Long Island Family Festival, which is taking place September 12th-14th at Tanner Park in Copiague. This will be a family-fun event with a lot of excitement. In addition to the carnival, there will be live music, a craft show, a pet expo, a petting zoo and many more unique exhibits.
2. The second event is the Village Cup Regatta in Port Jefferson. Members of this community come together for this unique event where the Port Jefferson Village employees compete against the doctors and staff of Mather Hospital in a boat race on the sound. This event raises money for pancreatic cancer. Boats set sail on Saturday, September 6th at 1pm in Port Jefferson Harbor.
