Get a taste of Stony Brook this fall.

Apart from the fact that the days are still hot and sweaty, we must face the truth: fall is right around the corner. And with this comes all the fun times of joining new clubs and enjoying new experiences here at Stony Brook. So when you’re stuck wondering what to do in the downtime between classes, go out and find new things. This school is riddled with hidden gems just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed by you.

1) Pink Gloves Boxing The Campus Recreation Center offers multiple fitness classes for its members to enjoy. However, a recently new class has taken off by storm. Pink Gloves Boxing is an awesome outlet for women looking to stay in shape, feel strong and confident and develop gratifying relationships with their peers and trainers. (Sorry boys, this isn’t for you.) Though the classes are filled up for this semester already, you can always attend a demo class and register next semester. Get ready to sweat ladies, it’ll be worth it in the end though!

2) “Kate Gilmore: Top Drawer”

If hand to hand combat or woman’s empowerment isn’t quite your fancy, the Staller Center is hosting an art gallery exhibit from now until October. The show is titled “Kate Gilmore: Top Drawer” and it features sculptures, performances and video work by Kate Gilmore. Along with the art work on display, there will be an artist talk with Gilmore on September 15 at 1pm.

So put down that pumpkin spice latte, sign out of Netflix, and go out and explore this diverse campus you live in. Enjoy this upcoming fall semester and immerse yourself into the rich culture Stony Brook has to offer.
