Long Island Doll Hospital Jan Davis and her husband Walter Davis have been repairing broken and worn dolls for more than 30 years. They also fix Steiff stuffed animals and teddy bears. They attend toy and doll conventions where they buy doll parts. They have their workshop, which they refer to as a “doll hospital” in Southold, which doubles as an antique store. Since they have been doing this for so long, I believe the couple would have a lot to say; it is also their passion and where their heart is, so it would make the story even better. I also think this would make for some great photos. I could get shots of the dolls before, as they are being worked on, and the finished products. I could also take pictures around the doll hospital and the other antiques that she has. Gregg the Woodcarver Gregg uses chainsaws and hand tools to make works of art from locally harvested lumber on Long Island. He makes furniture, benches, bears, hand carved signs and many more things and has been doing this for over 15 years. Each of his bears were hand carved from tree trunks and he adds different stains and colors and he says the size and theme of them often comes from the owner’s passion. Aside from wood sculptures he also makes metal ones using discarded tools, horseshoes and other reclaimed steel items and fuses them together to make art. I think this would also be a good story to use for my audio slideshow. He would have a lot to say about how he started this hobby, as well as the process of carving. I could take photos of all of his pieces as well as of him carving new ones.
